Saanich Roads and What to Expect
Saanich covers a huge area of Greater Victoria and the driving conditions vary significantly from one neighbourhood to the next. The Quadra and McKenzie Avenue corridor near the ICBC Driver Licensing office at 1150 McKenzie is one of the busiest areas for new drivers. Speed zones change quickly, there are school zones on Borden Street near Reynolds Secondary and the traffic flow during peak hours requires strong hazard awareness.
Blanshard Street and the Uptown area near Saanich Road is another zone we cover in depth. The intersection at Blanshard and McKenzie has multiple lane changes and a busy transit corridor. Students who are not yet comfortable with multi lane driving often feel this pressure the first time through.
Further north in Royal Oak the Pat Bay Highway on and off ramps give new drivers good highway practice. Merging at speed, maintaining highway pace and exiting safely are skills that come up regularly on road tests and we work through them on lessons in that area.
Pickup Near Your School in Saanich
Many of our Saanich students are 16 or 17 and just starting their driving journey. We pick up near Reynolds Secondary on Borden Street, Spectrum Community School on West Burnside Road, St Michaels University School on Richmond Road and Claremont Secondary in the Royal Oak area. Just add your school or home address when you book and we come to you.
For students and families near Uptown Shopping Centre on Saanich Road, Tillicum Centre, Mayfair Mall on Douglas Street or Hillside Mall on Hillside Avenue those are all convenient pickup points we use regularly with Saanich students.
We also pick up anywhere along Quadra Street, Carey Road, McKenzie Avenue and Burnside Road. Cedar Hill, Lake Hill, Broadmead, Gorge and Tillicum are all areas we cover every week. Just add your address when you book and we handle the rest.
Preparing for the McKenzie Avenue ICBC Office
The ICBC Driver Licensing office at 1150 McKenzie Avenue is where most Saanich and Victoria students take their N and Class 5 road tests. Our instructors know this area and the surrounding streets extremely well. We make sure every student feels completely comfortable driving in this part of Saanich well before their test appointment. If you want to know exactly what the examiner looks for on test day read our guide on how to pass the ICBC road test in Victoria. You can also book a full road test evaluation with us before your official road test appointment.
Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and English. All Taught Here.
Saanich has one of the largest South Asian communities in Greater Victoria, particularly in the Quadra, Tillicum and Cedar Hill areas. Our instructors teach in English, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu. When you are getting feedback on a left turn at Blanshard and McKenzie or a lane merge on Carey Road, hearing that correction in your own language makes a real difference. Just let us know your preference when you book and we match you with the right instructor for your Saanich lesson.
Seniors and Returning Drivers in Saanich
We work with seniors across Saanich who want to rebuild confidence, refresh their skills or prepare for a road test re-exam. Saanich has a large senior population in areas like Broadmead, Royal Oak and Cedar Hill and we serve all of these neighbourhoods with home pickup included. There is no pressure and no rush. We go at whatever pace feels right. Many returning drivers also book a road test evaluation first to understand exactly where they stand before their official road test appointment.
