Class 4 Restricted Driving Lessons in Victoria BC

If you want to drive for Uber, Lyft, a taxi company, or any vehicle that carries passengers for hire in Victoria, you need a Class 4 Restricted licence. This is the professional driving licence for vehicles carrying up to 10 people, including the driver.

The Class 4 road test is more rigorous than Class 5. Before you get behind the wheel, the examiner conducts a walk-around for a pre-trip inspection to ensure you know the vehicle inside and out. The on-road portion then follows, where standards for observation, speed control, and positioning are strictly enforced. See the full list of Class 4 licence requirements below.

We have helped hundreds of Victoria drivers successfully pass their tests. We know exactly what examiners are looking for and ensure you are fully prepared for both the inspection and the drive. Our instructors offer driving lessons in Victoria in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu.

A valid Class 4 Learner's Licence is required before your first lesson. Once obtained, book your training with us here.

Ace Your Class 4 Inspection By Learning From The Best!

So you think you will be able to pass the driving test class 4 without help? Well, you aren’t the only one with such a train of thought. But, you, like others, will soon realize how mistaken you were. The thing is, class 4 driving is a huge responsibility.

Yes, road safety is crucial irrespective of whether you are driving alone or with ten people. Being responsible is vital the moment you bring a vehicle on the road. However, when you undertake the job of transporting other people, you have to realize that the responsibility increases by manifold. There’s absolutely no room for error or mistake.

And that’s why class 4 restricted inspection is conducted with so much scrutiny. Even a simple mistake can cost you your license, and you will have to go through the whole thing again. Surely you wouldn’t want to put yourself through that. Doesn’t it make much more sense to give the class 4 road test only when you are fully prepared for it?

And with our class 4 restricted driving lessons, preparing for it is now easier than ever! So why not put your best foot forward instead of having to face rejection due to inadequate information and preparation.

Mock Test
Yes
No
Park Brake Set
Before starting the inspection confirm the parking brake is fully engaged so the vehicle cannot roll. The vehicle must remain stationary throughout the entire pre-trip inspection.
Under Hood
Yes
No
Engine Oil
Check the engine oil level and condition. Pull the dipstick, wipe clean, reinsert fully, then pull again. The level should be between the MIN and MAX marks. Check the colour and smell of the oil as these can indicate engine problems.
Coolant
Check the coolant level and condition including colour and smell. The reservoir should be between the MIN and MAX marks. Do not open the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Unusual colour or a sweet smell can indicate a problem with the cooling system.
Battery
Check for visible corrosion or leaks on the battery. Terminal connections must be secure. The battery must be securely mounted in its tray. Check the battery fluid level if accessible.
Hoses
Ensure all hose connections are secure with no kinks, leaks, cuts, abrasions or cracks. This includes radiator hoses, heater hoses and any other visible hoses in the engine compartment.
Belts
Ensure any drive belts have good tension. Look for cracks, frayed cord or missing teeth. A belt that is too loose, too tight or showing visible wear must be reported before the vehicle is operated.
Leaks
As you approach the vehicle look under it for any leaks. In the engine compartment check for fuel, oil or coolant leaks. Any fluid found on the ground beneath the vehicle must be identified and reported before operating.
Other Fluids
Check the levels and condition of power steering fluid, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid. All should be between the MIN and MAX marks on their respective reservoirs. Low brake fluid can indicate worn brake pads or a leak and must be reported immediately.
In Cab
Yes
No
Documentation
Ensure all documentation is in the vehicle and is valid and up to date. This includes: vehicle licence, registration and insurance. Check logbook if required, CVIP inspection report if required, and CVIP inspection decal on the windshield if required.
Defroster/Heater
Ensure the heater and defroster controls work including the fan. Test all three positions: fan only, heater and defroster. Air should blow from the correct vents in each mode. The driver must be able to clear a fogged or frosted windshield at any time.
Horn
Press the horn briefly to confirm it works and produces a loud audible sound. The horn is a required safety device and a vehicle without a working horn is not roadworthy.
Gauges and Warning Lights
Ensure all gauges and warning lights are working properly and respond correctly as the engine starts and warms up. The fuel gauge should indicate sufficient fuel. The charge rate indicator or voltmeter should show the charge is good. The oil pressure indicator should indicate normal pressure soon after the engine starts. The coolant temperature indicator should rise to normal operating temperature and the warning light should go off after the engine starts. All other warning lights should go off after the engine warms up.
Interior Lights
Ensure all interior lights work. This includes the dome light, map lights and any step or entry lights. Open the door to confirm the door activated light functions correctly.
Instrument Lights
Ensure all instrument lights work. Turn on the headlights and confirm the dashboard instrument cluster is clearly illuminated. Check that no warning lights remain on after the engine has warmed up. A dark instrument panel makes it impossible to monitor speed or engine status at night.
Mirrors
Ensure mirrors are adjusted for you and that they are clean and free of cracks. Adjust the inside rear-view mirror and both outside mirrors before moving. All mirrors must provide a clear unobstructed view to the rear.
Windows and Windshield
Ensure windows and windshield are clean and free of cracks and that they open and close properly. A crack in the critical area of the windshield directly in front of the driver is a defect that must be reported.
Windshield Wipers and Washer
Ensure windshield wipers and washers both work. Test all wiper speeds and confirm the washer fluid sprays correctly onto the windshield. Wiper blades should clear the windshield cleanly without streaking or skipping.
Seats and Seatbelts
Check that the driver seat is adjusted for you and that the seatbelt is in working order. Check that all seatbelts are in good condition and work well. Seats and the passenger compartment should be clean.
Engine Noises
With the engine running listen carefully for any unusual sounds. Knocking, ticking, rattling or hissing can indicate engine, exhaust or mechanical problems. Any unusual noise must be reported and investigated before the vehicle is operated.
Outside Vehicle
Yes
No
Body/Structural Damage
Walk around the entire vehicle and check for body damage. Note any dents, cracks or structural damage and report it before the trip begins. Documenting pre-existing damage protects you from being held responsible later.
Doors
Ensure all doors open and close securely. Each door must latch properly and not fly open while driving. Check that all door handles work from both inside and outside. Passenger doors must be operable for emergency exit.
Exhaust
Ensure the exhaust system is in good condition with no leaks and that the muffler is securely fastened. Listen for unusual sounds when the engine is running. An exhaust leak is dangerous as carbon monoxide can enter the passenger compartment.
Fuel Cap/Charging Cover
Ensure the fuel cap is present and secure. A missing or loose fuel cap allows fuel vapours to escape and creates a fire hazard.
Licence Plates — Front and Rear
Check that both front and rear licence plates are present and that the current registration decal is displayed on the rear plate. Plates must be clean and fully readable.
Trunk
Ensure the trunk lid opens and closes securely. Check that the spare tire and jack are present. If the vehicle has a propane tank ensure it is secure and not leaking.
Lights
Yes
No
Low/High Beam Headlights
Ensure low and high beam headlights work. Lenses must be clean and not cracked and must be the correct colour. Switch between low and high beam to confirm both settings function on both sides.
4 Way Emergency Flashers (in cab)
Check that both indicator lights on the dashboard work when the hazard button is pressed. The exterior lights will be confirmed during the circle check when you verify the turn signals.
Turn Signals
Ensure turn signals work on all four corners of the vehicle. Test both left and right from inside the cab then walk around to confirm front and rear exterior lights are flashing. Lenses must be clean, not cracked and the correct colour.
Tail Lights
Ensure tail lights work. With the headlights on walk to the rear and confirm both tail lights are illuminated. Lenses must be clean, not cracked and the correct colour.
Brake Lights
Ensure brake lights work. Have an assistant press the brake pedal while you check from the rear, or use a reflective surface. All brake lights must illuminate when the pedal is pressed. Lenses must be clean, not cracked and the correct colour.
Licence Plate Light
Ensure the licence plate light works. With the headlights on confirm the rear licence plate is illuminated. The lens must be clean, not cracked and the correct colour.
Wheels
Yes
No
Tire Condition
Check tires for proper inflation and look for signs of bulges, sidewall separation, cuts to the cord and exposed or frayed belts. Tread depth must be adequate. Check each tire on all four corners of the vehicle.
Lug Nuts
Check wheels for damage and ensure wheel lug nuts are secure. If visible confirm none are missing, broken or loose. Check all four wheels during the circle check.
Brake Response
Yes
No
Parking Brake (if applicable)
Depress the brake pedal and shift the transmission into low gear. Gently tug against the parking brake. The brake should hold the vehicle firmly in place. Release the parking brake fully before proceeding.
Service Brake
Release the parking brake then move the vehicle ahead and apply the foot brake to check brake response. The vehicle must stop promptly. Any abnormal response such as pulling to one side, grinding or a spongy pedal must be reported before the vehicle is used.
